MURALS

MURAL ARTS ON THE BOARDWALK
Madison Marquette stepping up in Asbury
(Better late than never)
By Jason Thomson
Tri City News, May 28, 2015

Some people will write anything their paid to write.
I guess MM read my piece on Haculla and decided
to try and cut their losses.

I will give them credit.  Porkchop's
Jellyfish Lady
is an excellent work.  All the pieces are there.
Concept, design and skill not to mention talent.
It is a welcome addition to the casino and enhances the cultural ambiance. He deserves all the credit he can get.

PAU QUINTANAJORNET

from Germany also deserves credit for her whimsical, colorful piece,  I just happen to come across her
while she was working and snapped a few shots.

 Just absolutely gorgeous work.

....but...!!!!

on the other hand there are some issues. I'm 71.  Been painting 53 yrs.  Have a six page resume, that includes working for all the major studios in Hollywood, Calif.  at one time or another.  I've done numerous murals over the years.

Yet strangely nobody seems to know I exist.

Jenn Hampton who is curating the murals has always been afraid of me. (But then a lot of wimmen in this town are.  Wonder why) She's had a gallery nine years.  I've been painting fifty three.  Who is most qualified?

As for Madison Marquette bringing people from Venezuela and Germany when they can see where I live out their back door is offensive.  They wouldn't be able to see me if I sat on their face.

In the article someone was quoted as saying "more art, less bureaucracy".  Zat so.

Did MM go thru the mural process?  What, don't know about the mural ordinance? Porkchop does. Could they be illegal murals?  Better check with Dennis Carol at ARTSCAP.  I'll call the city and find out.

And as for the purple lights helping Haculla's hack job.  No amount of pretty lights is going to save it. Nobody is around at night to see it anyway.

Failing to give credit where credit is due expresses the concept of jealousy. What is there to be afraid of?
It's called the afraid I'll succeed syndrome.
