POWER

Note:  I sat on this a long time before it got printed

There is a book, Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukov  It was on the NY Times best seller list for a long time

In it he talks about power  There is authentic power by people that have a product they produce  Artist, writers etc.

Secondary power is sex, money, guns, drugs etc.

He failed to mention the most common power of them all  The POWER of denial

I use to drive cab at night in and around Charleston, S.C.  I spent a lot of time in the darkest part of the hood

Gradually, after a couple of years I slowly began to come to a conclusion, specifically

.......these people love the streets...!!!

Then I checked myself and thought, am I biased?  Am I seeing what I want to believe  So I started observing with an un-biased  eye

I came to the same conclusion, they luv the street

I came to the realization it was about the power of denial

The less power people have the more anxious they are to exercise it

These people were powerless

Young girls would walk out in front of traffic with out even looking up

Teen agers would block half the street and not move  Make me drive around

One time someone in a cross walk, saw me coming and deliberately slowed down

They were exercising the power of denial

They were controlling the space

Michael Brown, the guy shot in Ferguson, Missouri was in the middle of the road  When told to use the side walk he ignored a trigger happy cop

My advice, stay out of the street

ECLIPSE

Note:   This took a long time to come out

or...!!!!
when does a division become a divide ?

Did you ever wonder what it is like when a teacher is surpassed by a student ?  Probably not

SAM CLAYBERGER
was my teacher, friend, mentor
Did I surpass Sam?  No

Technology did  When does a division become a divide?
As in the internet divide

When computers and the internet hit I managed to pick up social media and photo shop

Sam did not  This led to tension between us  Some how I  surpassed him

When I last visited him in 2015 I shot some pictures of  25 + pieces of his art

When I  returned to my place I ran them thru photo shop and put mats around them
At the time I was in luv with the "posturize"
filter in photo shop  Out of curiosity I applied it to one of his pieces  I liked the result and did three or four of them  Then filed them away and for got about them

In one of my last conversations with him he said he had digitalized all of his paintings  I told him he should digitalize all of his work then put them on at least a half dozen "thumb" drives then distribute them  Put some in a safe box  Give some to his daughter, maybe give one to me  He asked why  I said for safe keeping  He didn't answer

Sam passed  As a tribute  I posted the pictures I took in 2015  Without thinking about it I included some of the pieces I had posturized

I got an email from his daughter asking me to take down the pieces I had altered

Why would she have even noticed unless Sam had clued her what to look for  My question is.....what was Sam afraid of?  What did he think I was going to do with them?

I took them down  No problem

Then I joined a Face Book group called L.A. Artist  Then & Now

As a tribute to Sam I posted this piece

Apparently, Lori his daughter also was on the same site

When she saw it the shit hit the fan

For the record  The piece posted was NOT digitally altered
