ALF
...can not express it's appreciation and gratitude enough for the historic passage of this
performers ordinance...but..!!
Nothing is ever perfect..so we have issue with the ordinance as written and ask the city for...an adjustment
4-13.2
...states that no performer shall conduct his or her performance in the public areas of the city of Asbury Park, or the boardwalk....period, with out a permit
Trouble with that it goes directly in the opposite direction of what ALF is trying to accomplish in terms of
"cultural santurary".
As written it effectively outlaws the expression of culture.
I'm sure it is an oversight on the part of the council. The
words.."for monetary gain needs to be inserted here.
ALF has stated before that culture should be
DECRIMINALIZED
It is a claring contradiction to be promoting
MUSICAL HERITAGE
while outlawing the expression of culture
Case in point. Thurs. night I was on the board walk and encountered some officers running off musicians trying to
play across from the Stone Pony. The shame of it all.
The police are un-aware, because that is how the ordiance is written, that it is O.K. to play music anywhere in the city, including the boardwalk as long as it is not for
monetary gain.
to do so is to contravene the consitution's first amendment
regarding freedom of expression.
The city is exposing itself to legal challenges.
4-13.3 d
No performers on the boardwalk on July fourth weekend.
Just when there is a chance to make some change your prohibited from performing.
As of this writeing there have been six permits issued.
There is no way six performers are going to be a problem
or in any way interfere with anything. A positive approach would be to realize that culture is an asset that attracts tourist dollars. Running them off at the crictical moment is counter productive. The opposite approach should be considered. Inviting performers on that day to showcase AP as
a culturaly hip place.

This effectively eliminates the long time sideshow attractions the sword swallower and the fire breather.
This is an un-founded fear, as in no basis for it. Visit you tube

..and observe the fire breathers in the convention hall.
They performed with out incident. To my knowledge there has
NEVER, NEVER been a known incident where someone has
been injured while watching a sword swallower and/or
fire breather. If anyone, anywhere can produce
evidence of it, ALF would welcome it. ALF thinks the city council should rescind that part of the ordinance
