ART

.....SIGNS OF LIFE

All is not lost in Assbury Park.  Came across this in front of the Brickwall on Cookman.

What a drastic concept...Art without commercial
content.  Somebody is a designer (Rick?) Somebody has a sense of organization, un-like the mush school of art which is so prevelant amongest the usual crowd of pretentious pretenders in AP.

CELEBRATE

I was so impressed I wanted to cry

...on the other hand...the non existent
art scene took a body shot.

SICA, The Shore Insitute of Contemporary Art,
run by Douglas Ferrari had only been open for a year on Cookman  when he closed thier doors.

and

RE-BEARTH

The art supply store on Bond closed thier door.  Not suprised by that at all.  Those guys had an identity crisis.  They had thier name on the front twice, but hid the fact they were an arts supply store.  I tried to help them but they didn't want to be helped

If a stranger was to stand in front of Re-bearth there is no way of knowing what this store sold.  The only place it is shown is in the lower left hand corner of the front window.  Down low so it is hidden from view by cars.

Around the side it is up high where it can be seen...but!! It only can be seen from a certain angle.
Why limit your exposure ?

There is a lot of competition for a viewers attention.
If they have to "struggle" to read it, they won't

Not only that , red is the most difficult color to see.  As soon as the light begins to fade, red and black go together and become one and un-readable.

Dan Jacobs at Tri City news  is constantly talking about how they are working to make AP
the place where the creative and alternative is ascendent

I'm beginning to think he is paid to write (by the local powers that be)  the stuff he does because it is so far off base from reality
that there is little or no connection.

He never reports on galleries closing because that is in-consistent with the image he wants to project

What can you expect from an x-lawyer

They don't call him "Tin head" for nuffin'.
